Cool Stuff! no. 4 (Southeastern and Far Eastern Asia)

I’ve never knew much about China, so I decided to look up some interesting facts.
Number one is, is that based on native languages, Chinese is the most spoken language in the world.  I find this interesting because I know that China is HUGE but I always thought that Russia had more people. But apparently China has 1.4 billion more people than Russia. Number two, China has the largest army in the world which honestly isn't surprising because of how big it is. Number three (which is my favorite) China owns all the pandas in the world. Now when I first heard this I was like no way because of all the different zoos all over the world, but apparently pandas are lent from People's Republic of China. I just find that to be crazy interesting and cool. Number four, 35 million people in China live in caves. It is because some people in China can't afford housing so they use Caves as shelter.
Number five the whole country of China only has one time zone. Back in the day it used to be five separate time zones but under some communist leaders in 1949 they made it to where it is only one time zone. So, because of this, in some places the sun does not rise until 10am and everything is under Beijing time. Number six Chinese New Year last for 15 days. To me this is something that I would like to experience once in my life. I feel like this would be like 15 days of christmas to me. Number seven It is believed that the chinese invented the first ice cream more than 4000 years ago by mixing snow, milk, and rice. Like who doesn't love ice cream but imagine eating it 4000 years ago, I just wish I had a time machine so I could experience that. The last fact number eight. China is the longest continuous civilization in the world.

  1. I always thought that the most spoken language was Spanish, not Chinese. I had no idea that China had THAT many people! It's so cool that ice cream was invented so long ago!

  3. I have never seen anything like the Chinese town built in the cave. What an interesting way of life. I wonder what kind of music they make there; it is definitely a very resonant space.

  4. This is all interesting, Richelle, and I'm glad that you decided to learn more about China. Do be aware that it's tricky to talk of "Chinese" as a language, since different groups in China speak different languages. You usually want to be more specific, referring to Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, etc. And I'm afraid that you don't really have three different lines of inquiry on this blog, do you? Rather you have one with a few little bits.
